WOMEX 2016 Recap

womex16-foto-eric-van-nieuwland-234043We are finally back in the office after a whirlwind week in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, for WOMEX16. We were part of the largest Canadian delegation in WOMEX history with 100+ Canadian delegates!

This was by far Mundial’s most successful On the Road mission, with 3 showcases, 2 receptions, the World Routes Network Meeting, and more meetings, meetings, meetings!

Mundial took over Salón Teatro for a hugely successful offWOMEX night attracting 1200+ delegates to see H’Sao (the first ever Chadian artist at WOMEX), Quique Escamilla, and Boogat showing why Canada is a global leader in exciting new sounds. We are thrilled about the night!

img_5218The inaugural meeting of the World Routes Network brought together 48 Canadian presenters and observers to discuss the Canadian world music scene and formalization of the network. The next regroup will be at Mundial in 3 weeks!

Mundial and Folquébec hosted 200+ delegates at our joint World Music de Chez Nous reception. And because 1 wasn’t enough, Mundial also partnered with Canada Council for the Arts to host a 2nd reception. Both hugely successful.

Rounding out the Canadian talent at WOMEX, Folquébec showcased Les Tireux d’Roches, The East Pointers played an official WOMEX
showcase, and Mundial alumn Kobo Town performed with legendary Calypso Rose in celebration of her WOMEX award.

Sincere gratitude to our supporters on this, mission accomplished: Musicaction, FACTOR, SODEC, Canadian Heritage, CIMA, and the Canada Arts Council.
